How to Protect your dog's paws from freezing outside (EASY homemade dog boots)?

First you must convince your Fuzzy Face to hold still, and furthermore to accept your tampering with his feet. Bribery always works for me as my dog LOVES peanut butter but never gets any (except when it works to my advantage!) One method I use is to employ an accomplice to dispense the peanut butter while I do the dirty work. The dog almost never notices what I'm doing with his feet when he has a face full of treat

• So with Dog Breath distracted, pick a foot and slip a sock on HEEL SIDE DOWN
• wrap zip tie around his ankle beneath the dew claw and above the foot pad on the front feet (this keeps it nicely in place) being sure to have it snug but NOT uncomfortably tight. If he's limping or won't walk, loosen the zip ties
• On the back feet there are no dew claws so just try to keep the zip tie low
• Now here's the best part; with no-show socks of a size appropriate to your dog's foot size, the sock should fold down over the zip tie and double over his foot with the heel part nicely cupping his tosies, creating a double layer of protection from the elements
• My dog LOVES wearing his socks! Especially after having suffered before I figured this method out. Now he dances and prances around the place after I've put them on, absolutely excited to walk in them knowing that his feet won't hurt this time. How to Put Boots on Your Dog?

Many people find that their dog resists wearing boots; doesn't want to let you put them on, and doesn't want to keep them on

• Make putting on the boots, the first step in going outside. Put them on before the collar, leash, harness, raincoat or any other item that the dog associates with going outside
• Make a game of it. Put the dog on its back, rub its stomach, and talk to it about going outside. Put the right front boot on first, then the left front, then the right rear, then the left rear. Always make sure that you follow the same sequence. The dog needs to know what is going to happen next
• Turn the dog back on to its feet and praise it for doing a good job. Put on the collar, leash etc. and away you go
• The dog may throw a boot the first few times you take it out. Just pick up the boot and don't scold the dog. If you say anything, just reassure the dog that things are OK and continue with the walk. It doesn't matter if you come home with all 4 boots in your pocket and none on the dog. Things will get better. After the 1st week if the dog throws a boot just lift its paw and put it back on. The on the back procedure is only for putting the boots on indoors
• When you get home from the walk, remove the boots with the dog standing on all fours. With the dog facing away from you, take off the right rear first, then the left rear, turn the dog so that it is facing you, take off the right front, then the left front, and PRAISE the dog for being so good.
• Effusive praise is important at this point and a treat can be a good thing too
